Notre Dame du Haut, Ronchamp, France

Notre Dame du Haut, Ronchamp, France the work of Le Corbusier built in 1955 as a pilgrimage NotreDamechapel, is more frequented by architectural pilgrims than the planned religious travelers.

He used curved shapes and light to sculpt the design of the chapel. The walls are pierced with stain glass windows and the curved roof meets the curved walls with the horizontal crack of light. He sculpted the building mass and light into an experience that was gratifying.

If you were an Architecture Student from 1960’s to 1980’s you have to travel to see and enjoy Le Corbusier buildings. But one comment; if you plan trip to see Notre Dame du Haut plan it well, there only one train in the early morning to and only one in the late afternoon back to the town. If you don’t connect with them you will get ripped off by the FRENCH TAXI DRIVERS to get there. I did!
