Lightening shuts down Yankee Stadium

I have been to many baseball games over the years. I been to rain delay games, rain Blue Jay vs Yankees Ticketstubshortened games and rain canceled games, but this past week was the first game that  Lightening shuts down Yankee Stadium.

The game between the Blue Jay and Yankees was delayed by 50 minutes due to lightning in the area. The Field Crew was ready with the tarps to cover the field just in case it rained, but it didn’t until the bottom of the 7th with the Yankees leading 6 -0.

The Yankees took an early lead in the bottom of the 1st with a homer from Texieira and RBI single by Jones. The game was moving along just fine until the bottom of the 7th when the reliever Becker was coming into the game for Romero, the starting pitcher. As soon as he got to 2nd base on his way to the pitcher mount, the sky open and the rain came.

We could tell the game would be call as it was an official game and it was a getaway day. We waited around for 45 minutes before catching the train home. A fun afternoon at the stadium is always better then afternoon at the office.
