They were two very special evenings at Jazz at Lincoln Center with the performance of many of the Charlie Parker arrangements with Strings.
Bird released 2 LPs in 1950 with Mercury Records which became some of his biggest hits. These arrangements were being performed by a select group of artists, Vincent Gardner, Charles McPherson, Wess Anderson, Ryan Kisor, Ehud Asherie, Ben Wolfe, Victor Lewis, Strings from Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas and conductor Ben Wendel.
Vincent put the group together for a unique evening of music with I have never heard preformed live, recordings are great but live is extraordinary. We’re so uses to hearing hard bop arrangements to hear the sounds of Bebop made this night that much more extraordinary.
