This ticket is from a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier. It was the first time I had ever traveled out of state to watch the national team. You’d think with a place like Utah, it would be a very pro US environment. Wrong.
Just as easily as I was able to get from LA to Salt Lake City, so were throngs of Salvadorian ex-pats. And not just from LA. Reno, Vegas, Sacramento, San Francisco. At the end of the day I’d say it was about 60-40 in favor of the US crowd wise.
As for the team, having lost 2-1 to Mexico a month earlier, they needed to start winning again if they were going to qualify for South Africa. They won the day 2-1, though it probably should have been 3-1 as the referee called back a legitimate goal (obviously a sign of things to come at the World Cup).
