The crowd (about 30 parents and friends) gathered around the stage in hushed expectation as the performers hustled and peeked from behind the curtain. Aged 6 – 8 – it was the culmination of 2 weeks of work (if you want to call camp work that is).
Either way – each kid had a couple of lines, and 1 or 2 were the leaders. As the proud father of one of the younger campers – we had practiced BOTH lines she had – and were on pins and needles waiting to see what would happen when it was her turn to pop up and deliver. Stage fright was already a recognized option, who knew if it would take over when the time came?
The tension was high – performances cool and then the moment came…. BOOM – she hits her 1st line – casts a cool smile over at mom and dad and we’ve past stage fright. Basking in the moment, we almost passed our queue for line 2, but got back on track at the last second to hit that one also – right on time.
After the show it’s all bouquets and the new dessert shop in town – a cast party for 1 and a great day for all.
