Fernando Valenzuela at Shea Stadium

Mets – Dodgers – May 1981 – if my memory is correct this is Fernando Valenzuela’s first game at Shea Stadium – Dodgers 1 – Mets 0 – Fernando out pitches Mike Scott.  – look at the side of the ticket I  wrote “Fernando Valenzuela”   – the story has to be true.

When I did a little digging on baseball-almanac.com it turns out he fanned 11 in a 9 inning complete game against the likes of Dave Kingman (once sent a reported a dead rat in a box), Lee Mazzilli and Joel Youngblood.
