Frenchman’s Camp shows on the Eel River were extremely popular and magical adventures. The isolated and beautiful Eel River venue was significantly different from seeing a band in an amphitheatre surrounded by concrete. The fifth annual show, The Jerry Garcia Band, Taj Mahal, and Marty Balin, was promoted by BGP and the Hog Farm in 1991.
The venue had a lot to offer for heads; it was a huge grassy area in the middle of nowhere with a river running through it. Vendors were set up around the perimeter selling tie-dyes and everything else imaginable.
As far as I can remember, over summer break I drove down with some Reed College friends, spending the night camping outside a friend’s mom’s trailer. When I arrived I found some of my old Cosmic House Pennsylvania friends and hung out with them.
