Ah my Mets – 2004 Home Opener

As today’s talent laden Met’s look to dump, dump dump players to save money, I thought I’d mets_braves_ticketshare this Stubstory from the Home Opener in 2004. I went to this game with my 4 cousins – all crazy Met fans.

These were the Kaz Matsui Mets – lead by such distinguished gentlemen as Todd Zeile and Mike Cameron and in this game the Mets gave the crowd a nice 10 – 0 cushion by the 5th inning. Shea Stadium, for all it’s warts was home for us, and the cousins had all been to games together, so this one was a trip down memory lane. Talk about the family, catch-up on our jobs and generally assume the Mets would go undefeated at home based on their strong 5 innings of work.

Sure enough the Braves start scoring, not enough to really put the fear into us, but for sure enough to remind us we are still Met fans, and are capable of imploding at almost any second. 161 games later they were 20 under .500. Now in 2011 as we get ready to jettison Reyes and Beltran, maybe even D. Wright, I wonder if 2004 WAS the good old days.

Good luck my Mets.
